Many patients with airway narrowing suffer from declining quality of life and after long conservative and surgical therapy their ultimate hope is airway replacement. David Lott from Mayo Clinic, Phoenix, AZ, David Vondrys from Innsbruck Medical University, Austria have prepared a Tracheal Replacement Project.
This project aims to confirm that tracheal replacement with a decellularized and hybrid scaffold from pigs, is safe and reproducible in humans.
